Greater Israel: a constant for the past century!

All right, some people are fed up with hearing it repeated ad nauseam that a genocide/war crimes/barbarism has been taking place in Gaza for over two years now. Yet the facts are there for all to see, and no one can deny them given these films (some of which have been hugely successful at festivals) and eyewitness accounts, despite the media blackout and the ban on any journalist entering the territory – coming from a ‘democracy that has nothing to hide’ – not to mention the largest massacre of journalists in almost any history, in Gaza as well as in southern Lebanon (see links in the appendix). The tactic is the same, directly inspired by Guernica: everything is destroyed—homes, hospitals, services, schools, universities—in short, everything that makes life possible. The land is rendered uninhabitable—it will take decades before Gaza becomes habitable again, and the same goes for southern Lebanon and Syria; the inhabitants are left with a choice between packing their bags or facing death. Moreover, there is no difference between Christians and Muslims; it is the same: churches are destroyed just like mosques – not racist at all – Christ figures are desecrated, and Maronite villages that have lived in harmony with Muslims since time immemorial are completely razed to the ground… (1-15).

The best part is that they don’t even try to hide it. Take, for instance, this rabbi, the pride of Israel, celebrated at the Independence Day celebrations, who boasts of having demolished 50 homes in Gaza every week with ‘his’ bulldozer, operating on the ‘principle’ of never asking, before demolition, whether the building is inhabited or not (16). There are no innocents in Gaza, and in the West Bank – known as Judah and Samaria – they can destroy everything: houses, olive groves, vineyards; imprison children and the elderly alike (over 10,000 prisoners in Israel); and torture, including rape, is widely documented.

Countless voices have spoken out, notably the children of Holocaust survivors who have unhesitatingly compared all this to the Nazis, including historians such as Bartov (also Israeli…) not to mention NGOs across all fields, which are undoubtedly beacons of what remains of our morality… And of course the international organisations (UN, ICJ, etc.), flouted and rendered ineffective by Trump and his ilk – namely the numerous dictators scattered far and wide (18-25).

No, the main purpose of this text is to respond to the argument that keeps cropping up: it’s all down to the unacceptable massacres of 7 October… Sorry to disappoint you. The map of Israel as it is currently being drawn up was proposed in the early 20th century by the Jewish Council as the territory the Jews must occupy, and it encompassed both banks of the Jordan River and, to the north, a large part of southern Lebanon and Syria (the Greater Levant). Recent conquests follow this plan exactly, including southern Lebanon (up to the Litani River, the third source of the Jordan – the other two are in Israel), the occupied territories in Lebanon and Syria, the entire Golan Heights, and a finger-like salient into Syrian territory populated mainly by Druze.

And this is just the beginning; ideally, the territory ‘promised’ by God to Abraham stretches from the Nile to the Euphrates, and political leaders refer to this openly. This is a country based on the domination of a single religion, allowing courts to sentence a Muslim (or a Christian) to death for attacking a Jewish settler, whilst in the reverse scenario, the attacker is acquitted or, at worst, reprimanded… Rejecting what is nevertheless recognised by all international bodies, namely the right of the occupied to resist occupation. This entire programme was that of Netanyahu’s father, who, along with others, was responsible for Zionist organisations in the 1940s and, ultimately, has been part of the Zionist programme since its inception (26-27).The statements of Smotrich (her governor of occupied West bank) are incredible and not different from those of a Nazi (28). s

You are free, ladies and gentlemen, to support Israel at all costs, whatever it does; you are legally and morally complicit in crimes against humanity. Incidentally, you do not do justice to what Judaism truly is—the very opposite of what Israel represents today. For my part, I prefer to follow my conscience, whatever the cost, as a former Israeli who served his country before realising that we had been brainwashed. Ultimately, the problem remains the Naqba (28) and the expulsion from their lands of 700 to 800 thousand Palestinians who had lived there since time immemorial, the destruction of thousands of villages—numerous Oradour-sur-Glane-like tragedies—and to which this land belongs just as much as it does to the Jews, provided they are willing to share it rather than dominate it and massacre all those who oppose them.
