With over 600,000 signatures, the Yadan Law—this nefarious bill that would label any protester opposing the massacres in Gaza and elsewhere (Lebanon, the West Bank, and the occupied territories) as anti-Semitic—is on its last legs. As usual, the Socialists seem to want to “abstain” after Hollande, Guedj, and others were among the signatories supporting this law! It just goes to show that only fools never change their minds, even if it will be difficult to explain how a law that was once supported becomes unacceptable when a large number of citizens voice their opposition. One can hold whatever opinion one wishes regarding this situation; some even have the right to deny reality, but importing this conflict here is a huge mistake that will inevitably fuel anti-Semitism and social division over a conflict that does not directly concern us. Let’s leave the Middle East out of our own affairs; it remains unacceptable that our policy is dictated by the needs of a country that wants to become the empire of the Middle East (statement by the Prime Minister) and that is waging X wars of occupation in Lebanon and Syria, and destroying everything it can in Iran—far beyond mere military operations! Schools, universities, hospitals, technology centers, the Pasteur Institute—one of the region’s main vaccine manufacturing centers. The objective is obvious to anyone with a modicum of intellectual honesty: to prevent the emergence of a country capable of casting a shadow over Israeli dictates and the “Pax Israeliana”!
What remains is to convince European lawmakers to pass a law halting trade with Israel—which, let us remind those who seem to have forgotten, is led by a war criminal. It remains incomprehensible that French and German leaders would go so far as to offer support to Israel by meeting with a figure indicted for crimes against humanity and probable genocide. We must sign this appeal and halt all aid that we Europeans provide to this state. It is important to know that all of Israeli society is united on this issue; science and technology—including academia—work for the massive arms lobby, which makes this country one of the main sources of arms sales. It must be said that their weapons have been tested in real-world conditions, unlike ours. Let’s show a little courage and respect for the international laws we pay lip service to.
