Bibi Netanyahu will go down in history as the greatest war criminal of the early 21st century

To all the unwavering supporters of Israel, no matter what happens and no matter what Netanyahu and his clique do, please take a moment to look at the facts—and nothing but the facts. Forget for a moment October 7—despite the unforgivable massacres—the anti-Semitism allegedly caused by Muslims rather than Christians, contrary to the facts and history, the legends of 2,000 years of history on a land given by God to the Jews, and the dogma of Zionism—a land without a people to a people without a land—and focus on the present. The facts, nothing but the facts.

Israel is waging an unrestrained war against several countries with goals of conquest in the finest colonialist tradition. A succinct summary of this endeavor by experts as diverse as Carlson (a Trump supporter), Alexandre Poidatz, and Prof. Sachs. There are dozens of similar reports and testimonies from Holocaust survivors, rabbis, politicians of all stripes, and countless NGOs, lawyers, and legal experts—particularly at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which has just received support for the genocide complaint against Netanyahu from Spain, Ireland, Belgium, and the Netherlands. Netanyahu is liable to conviction for genocide and war crimes, to which we can add ethnic cleansing and urbicide with the complete destruction of Gaza (2 million inhabitants (1, 2, 3). Moreover, Smotrich, the influential minister of the occupied territories and finance, openly proclaims that we must do the same in Lebanon and turn it into a second Gaza (4). And this does not even account for the images of the endless massacres of children and families—please be warned that some images are unbearable (5,6) and my previous posts and my blog.

The ignominy and scale of the massacres perpetrated in full view of children are evident in the destruction of a classroom full of children every day, the shooting on sight of people trying to find food, and others attempting to confront a tank with stones—a scene furiously reminiscent of a famous image from Tiananmen Square a few decades ago (7, 8, 9, 10). Moreover, as far back as 20 years ago, Netanyahu openly expressed his goals, which have not shifted an inch, following in the footsteps of his father, who supported him 40 years ago (11).

The attack on Iran remains striking for the role reversal that Israel has made its specialty. Unless I am mistaken, Iran is or was a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty until Trump tore it up, and was complying with it according to IAEA experts. Israel has never signed this agreement and possesses about a hundred nuclear warheads (9). “Until proven otherwise”, it is Israel that attacked Iran, not the other way around. The argument that “they want to destroy us” is akin to “Minority Report”—we’re killing the intention. The other argument, that it is not a democratic country, is valid, but if we were to start destroying all countries that are not democratic, there would be a lot to do, and for now, Israel gets along very well with quite a few countries where democracy is not a given, and in fact openly and preferentially supports countries led by anti-Semites like Orbán and, in the West, far-right parties whose philo-Semitism is not evident. To say, in any case, that there has never been a Palestinian state and therefore one can kill and massacre at will is a double-edged argument; does that mean the massacre of millions of Native Indian Americans and their numerous tribes by the Yankees was justified?

Moreover, Israeli democracy is increasingly a figment of the imagination. Like his buddy Trump, they are attacking all the pillars of democracy—not to mention the third of the population without rights in this country- which isn’t exactly the hallmark of a democracy. The media are muzzled, with the few independent outlets being bought up by regime supporters (including one by the head of SFR!), and the High Court of Justice is under attack to the point where its members are under police protection. Censorship is in full swing, with a ban on saying anything about the destruction caused by Iranian drones, as well as anything related to Gaza. A recent example: five soldiers were filmed torturing a Palestinian prisoner nearly to death. A trial began, but since the prisoner was sent back to Gaza (and has likely been killed since), the proceedings were halted due to a lack of prosecution witnesses (12). The attacks on democracy, which mirror exactly what Trump is doing in the U.S., will result, as expected, in an extreme military theocracy that will have to live on a war footing for a long time. And it seems to be working, as Netanyahu is at the peak of his popularity and his opponents follow him like lapdogs.

As Einstein and many others have said, the real issue is not so much those who commit the crimes but those who do not react. In this regard, we in Europe are really good at it. There are only Sanchez (Spain’s Prime Minister) and a few others (Ireland, Norway, and now Belgium and the Netherlands), and here at home the left and Villepin, who dare to criticize Israel and its leader. Yet let’s not delude ourselves: this war—or rather, these wars—may well trigger a Third World War. As a reminder, the First World War was triggered by a situation that could easily have been avoided. When we listen to the head of NATO and others speak, we get the impression that they are incapable of understanding the dangers of becoming puppets of the Bibi/Donald duo. An Iranian ship, which had been invited to India to conduct a joint exercise with the US and others, was torpedoed off the coast of Sri Lanka (13) by a US submarine (14). Bravo for the heroic act!

Ultimately, what is happening is simply that Bibi is dragging us all into his war—the one he is waging to avoid going to prison for corruption- and to fulfill the prophecies of his father and all the other extremists in his country, namely to completely occupy Palestine and turn it into an exclusively Jewish state, and to be the sole dominant power from the Nile to the Euphrates, by partially occupying its neighbors and forbidding others from challenging its power—the Pax Israeliana.

As the leaders of Arab countries keep saying, all that is needed is for Israel to agree to share the land of Palestine as planned for the past 80 years so that it may be recognized by all its neighbors and enjoy lasting peace. But that is impossible now; Bibi has dragged the country behind him and faces no opposition, having muzzled all dissent in the style of Orwell and Gramsci.
