Contrary to popular belief, the notion of the Jewish people as the chosen people is supposed to represent their status as witnesses to the universality of the one God who created man—all men—in his image. This is the notion of ‘witness’ (‘ED’ in Hebrew). The universality of Judaism, which has contributed so much to history, stems from this. The enormous impact of Judaism on history—even from atheists or near-atheists such as Marx, Einstein, and Freud—and those who believed in a more egalitarian world and, to that end, broke away from an obsolete religion such as (the emergence of communism). They come from a culture torn between belonging to a group and the desire to break away from it. This should be kept in mind when discussing the current situation.
Indeed, the very nature of the universal is that it allows no exceptions; one cannot defend the Uighurs, the Bosnians, the massacres in Cambodia, Sudan, Rwanda and elsewhere, but make an exception for Israel because it is a martyred people. This is what the defenders of Zionism and Israel, including highly respectable intellectuals, are doing. In clear terms, the universality of Judaism died with the creation of Israel, or at least with the identification of Jews in the Diaspora with this national entity whose priorities are not those of the universal. Moreover, reading some of the great intellectuals at the time of Israel’s creation (Ehad Haam, the rector of Magnes University, etc., see the books cited in the references) shows that there was a debate about creating a binational country, open to the mother city of religions—Jerusalem—shared between them. Unfortunately, the emigrants from Eastern Europe who took matters into their own hands have only seen an ethnically ‘pure’ Arab-free state for the past century. The historical facts are well known, and those who refuse to understand and admit this refuse to see the facts, accusing the Palestinians of all wrongdoing and stubbornly refusing to see reality.
The Nakba – non-existent, ‘they left of their own free will’ – even though the evidence of the expulsion of more than 800,000 inhabitants and the massacres along the way is compelling, with more than 1,500 villages destroyed, forced marches reminiscent of other forced marches – such as those that brought 70,000 Palestinians to Gaza from Beersheba or Mijdal (now Ashkelon) or from Lydda (under the leadership of General Rabin, who regretted it years later). See references. The colonisation of all the land – in 80 years, the percentage of land occupied rose from 22% to 100% – and the expulsion and promotion of laws allowing tens of thousands of Palestinians to be imprisoned for indefinite periods, renewable every six months.- Admittedly, they sometimes commit attacks, but it seems to me that a colonised and occupied people has the right to defend itself. Those who resisted occupation in the past were ‘terrorists’.
‘They don’t want peace, we do!’ It’s almost funny, it’s so absurd. Even Goebbels would have nothing to complain about. The most powerful state in the region and probably one of the most powerful in the world, equipped with atomic bombs and missiles as well as the most efficient intelligence services in the world, is in danger of being overrun by stone throwers and a few Kalashnikovs and largely ineffective missiles. The technique is well known: exaggerate the strength of your opponent to make yourself look like the victim. Hezbollah was presented as an almost unbeatable force, but it was defeated in two or three days, as were the bulk of Hamas’s troops. Need we remind you that Hamas was heavily subsidised by Netanyahu in order to weaken the PLO and block any possibility of creating a Palestinian state? The technique has always been used successfully elsewhere: the only choice left is a corrupt and collaborationist system, opposed by an extremist organisation with little respectability, which will be ostracised by the West.
For the record, Israel has never agreed to say which territories it would be prepared to cede, and even after Oslo, settlement activity, including during Rabin’s time, resumed with a vengeance. For the record, the Bernadotte peace plans, accepted by the United Nations in the 1950s, were halted by his assassination by a Jewish terrorist, just like Rabin’s. The PLO, like Hamas, recognised Israel’s existence, but within the 1967 borders, and even recently Hamas declared itself ready to leave Gaza if the IDF did the same and Gaza remained in Palestinian hands with a large exchange of hostages for thousands of Palestinians languishing in prisons. It was Netanyahu who rejected the peace plan after the first truce, refused to exchange hostages because he would have lost his small majority in parliament, and engaged in fighting. The PLO, like Hamas, is waging war with the means at its disposal – it is indeed often indiscriminate terror, as on 7 October, but the bombs on the other side are just as indiscriminate and far more effective. Arafat once said, ‘Give us planes, tanks, etc., and we’ll fight a conventional war.’ In addition, there is an extraordinary propaganda machine that doesn’t bother with fake news (the babies in the oven on 7 October never existed, the UNRWA, which held the territories for 80 years, creating schools and clinics and allowing a quasi-normal life despite the fact that it is an open-air prison, is declared entirely terrorist, even though the situation has hardly changed for the better since Oslo, and the only resistance comes from Hamas, exactly as planned and predicted by successive Israeli governments. We are going to replace a structure that has proven itself, supported by the UN, with the GHW – a military thing that translates into the perpetual risk of death when looking for food and a starving population – hundreds of deaths per day, including many babies and infants who have died of starvation – (see links at the bottom of the text). Better still, cynicism is being taken to new heights by offering food in exchange for cash or credit card payments, a level of cynicism worthy of a Nobel Prize in a territory where there are no longer any banks, money or electricity for that matter.
Today, the Israelis are openly announcing (see references with politicians saying openly ‘everyone in Gaza must be killed, including babies, because they are snakes, animals’; Netanyahu announcing that all of Palestine is now Jewish, that the Gazans must go and live in Sudan, genocide, ethnocide, futuricide, forced displacement of a people, we have a choice of terms, all of which are prohibited by international law; ….Macron is going to recognise a cemetery coupled with an apartheid state in South Africa as it was before. Denying genocide is simply revisionism, like that of the Faurissons who denied the Holocaust.
The most impressive thing is that despite all this being clearly announced, despite the films and videos showing the massacres, the destruction of everything that makes life possible, the systematic elimination of journalists who could bear witness – more journalists killed than during the two world wars – the censorship of the army and the ban on showing images of these children dying of hunger and thirst, of these faces straight out of Auschwitz, our friendly representatives of the Zionist lobby continue to link the facts. The Einthovens, Fourests, Arams, the CRIF, the unspeakable BH-L, capable of talking about anything and everything and convincing us in broad daylight that it is night…Do they realise that by linking the Jews of the Diaspora directly to Israel, they are permanently eliminating the last vestiges of a Judaism that is a ‘universal witness to a message’ and will inevitably increase anti-Semitism?
Yes, Israel is committing genocide. Words matter, and no revenge can justify it. An Israeli expert, like Lancet, estimates that more than 150,000 people have died in Gaza, including tens of thousands of children. Netanyahu should have been in prison long ago. The ongoing war is his only chance of survival, and thanks to Trump, the stars are aligned for him. A country that is a friend and supporter of dictatorships (Orban, Milei, Putin, etc.), which helped the Serbs in the massacres in Bosnia and the Afrikaners in pre-Mandela South Africa and other African dictatorships—the list is long. Israel’s only allies today are on the far right, including openly anti-Semitic figures such as Orban, who is bringing back the dictator Horthy, responsible for sending Jews to Auschwitz, and the president of Serbia (who is repaying his support during the massacres of Muslims in Bosnia). But the consequence will be the creation of an Iranian-style theocratic state that is nothing like a democracy and will end up like Sparta or South Africa, which is a shame because this story could have been a wonderful bridge between North and South rather than the armed representative of the West in the East, the de facto 51st state of the USA.
I hope that the nights of these revisionists are like mine, filled with nightmares of mothers holding their starving babies in their arms…
