In a just world, Trump, Biden and Netanyahu should be in the Hague next to the boss of Hamas for war crimes. Trump and Biden for having paid for this war, without them Israel would not have lasted more than a week for lack of Bombs. Trump too for so many other reasons that it would take whole pages to fill them in, not least the transformation of the US into a pre-dictatorship. As for Musk, the Afrikaner Nazi who persists in pretending that Mandela never existed and that it’s normal for white Afrikaners to occupy all the land in South Africa, he should be in an asylum or on trial for illegally occupying the files of all US officials. Frankly, we feared the use of AI to identify everyone in China, Musk is doing much better and China will soon appear as a great democracy. Alongside them, there’s room for Bashar, Putin and a few other dictators and even ‘democrats’ like BUSH, who waged a dirty war in Iraq, using fake news and killing hundreds of thousands of people for nothing. Let us defend the ICJ at all costs, and our ‘beloved’ President would do well to understand that he will leave no trail in history other than having defended the ICJ and recognised the state of Palestine.
As a reminder, democracies and revolts are always internal; we didn’t need help to guillotine a king and the English to create the world’s first democracy. Lenin and the Russians understood this when they were beaten by Poland in their first attempt to occupy it. So we have to stop believing that we can ‘export’ a democracy. Talleyrand said ‘you can do anything with bayonets except sit on them’.
We’re going through a rough patch. After the revolts of ‘68 and the Arab revolts that followed, there’s a backlash and we’re back to absolute conservatism – with the domination of women in the middle, as in all monotheistic religions, and an apocalyptic vision of religion. Rather, of the 3 monotheistic religions, there is little difference between the God-crazy Islamists, the millions of US evangelists for whom Trump is God’s messenger, and the God-crazy Jews in Israel. So polytheism makes more sense. After 50 years of talking about 2 states in Palestine, France and Europe don’t even have the courage to do what Spain and Ireland are doing – recognise the Palestinian state alongside the Israeli state.
Here, we have a government built by those who lost the elections, and whatever the preferences of the various parties, that is not democracy. We did it in the referendum on Europe and it didn’t bring us any luck, see how the European bank operates and the commissioner-in-chief in Brussels considers, without ever having been directly elected by the people, that everything can be decided according to her interests (sometimes a little more for those of Germany than the other European countries). We’re in a bad way morally, with almost half the government being prosecuted for matters that in a real democracy should land them in jail or at least make them cease all political activity. A Minister of Justice has no business commenting on a court decision! This is our only guarantee of democracy, with all its imperfections. We’re in a bad way financially, but if we don’t reduce inequalities, we’re heading for disaster. His Highness Bernard Arnault is threatening to leave the country if he has to pay, I think, 400 million euros in tax (out of the hundreds of billions he has), so he should pay less in percentage terms than his secretaries (and me, who needs everything to develop medicines and pays 30%). He forgets that without the generations of seamstresses and noble tradesmen trained over the ages, he wouldn’t be much of anything, and I’m not talking about the state aid he’s been pumping out non-stop. Let him go, young people will do just as well, and he’ll be happy in the US when California’s on fire, Florida’s half under water, and if ever there’s a new epidemic, the ban on vaccines imposed by the madman in charge of health will send him to the next world.
Despite all this, life is good, because let’s never forget that history teaches us that empires only last a few centuries (except for the Pharaohs). The Pax Americana is living its last days -Trump is the ultimate bullshit- despite appearances, because while they are transforming their country into a great Cloaca with polluted rivers and basing their forces on technologies that have a limited lifespan, we, if we were intelligent, should be doing the opposite. Invest in ecology, make our country more liveable, invent a new agriculture and fishing techniques. We need to listen to and follow people – usually women – like Claire Nouvian, who reminds us that caring for the oceans is not just about saving fish, biodiversity and the climate (or even life on earth), but that everything is connected, everything is political, and that the main victory of the dominant capitalism – that of finance, not the real economy – is to have broken all socialisation. We need to get rid of the Tesla and other stuff by the sick Nazi Musk, leave X and go to Bluesky, for example – at least we won’t be reading Nazis and fake news any more – and boycott US products, as Canadians are doing. As individuals, we have the capacity to do good things by forgetting what politicians don’t know how to do. We need to relearn how to do things together, to appreciate a job well done, not to forget that the earth is not infinite, that everything fits together, and that together we’ve been able to do great things and we’ll continue to do so, each at our own level. It’s such a pleasure to read/listen to the Nouvians, the SOS Mediterraneans who save lives, the secours populaires and others who believe that another future is possible, the buyers of land to offer to farmers who will get out of the toxic environment of the FNSEA and pesticides everywhere, the Amaps that unite citizens and farmers year-round and guarantee quality food while respecting the land, the bakers who make their bread with their own flour. In short, hundreds of local initiatives that help to create links and raise awareness of these trades that deserve our respect. Unbridled capitalism, based on finance and not on the real economy, dominates our world. It breaks all social ties, so let’s get back to it and show that we can gradually do without it at local level.
