We have used and abused all the qualifiers, adjectives, adverbs and verbs to describe, in part only, this genocide, programmed and in progress. The destruction of everything that sustains life: hospitals, schools, universities, plantations, industry, religious and administrative buildings (including land registries, taxes, police), cemeteries. In short, a country returning to the Stone Age. What remains of humanity has been destroyed (1). Every independent body defending humanity in the world attests to the genocide in progress (2). The speech of an Israeli philosopher is poignant, for it commits the future (3), as is that of a Holocaust survivor and Israeli professor of Holocaust studies, Amos Goldberg (4). We also hear from the widow of the late Stéphane Hessel, who, like her husband, passionately defended the creation of Israel, and who, without calling into question the Hebrew state, – or from the widow of the late Stéphane Hessel, who, like her husband, passionately defended the creation of Israel, and who, without questioning this State, is finally calling for the courage to recognize Palestine, which in 1948 was to occupy 52% of the territory and which the many decisions of the UN and the Security Council are still paying lip service to, and which recognizes the so-called two-State solution (5).
Need we insist on the crime of extermination by deprivation of water, after the destruction of all water desalination and maintenance structures (6)? Everyone is a terrorist, from 4 to 90 years old, and of course women too. As a result, in the north of Gaza, a territory destined to be occupied by Israel, shots are fired at anything that moves (7), with an estimated 150,000 to 180,000 dead according to the Lancet, taking into account the dead under the rubble of the 80% of buildings destroyed (8). When we kill people who devote themselves to feeding the starving in images that those who dispute genocide would do well to watch (11) and when we destroy the only hospital in northern Gaza (12), taking the doctors and hospital director to prison, and the sick have to fend for themselves without a dedicated place, without electricity and without the bare minimum allowing, for example, infants to be kept in incubators!
We can debate the notion of genocide endlessly, but in the field, it’s outdated. Everyone agrees that this is genocide, ticking all the right boxes (13, 14, 15). The Western media bear a heavy share of the responsibility for this catastrophe, systematically denying the facts or dressing them up in periphrases and disguising reality (16, 17). It is estimated that there are over 40,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, held without trial (including children as young as 12), often humiliated and tortured, sometimes, ironically, on the basis of laws dating back to the British Mandate and now updated and aggravated.
Finally, a moment of anthology. In a rare moment of truth, a hidden camera in 2001, Netanyahu reveals the full splendor of his cynicism: “Yes, I want all the territory, yes, the 1967 borders have been exceeded, yes, the Oslo Accords don’t hold, because they’re not precise, I can put military installations everywhere and the time to turn them into settlements. Yes, I’ve never stopped humiliating the Clintons and other presidents, because 80% of Americans support me, and I know how to manage and tame them; look how I’ve also been able to play the UN, etc. (18) Please, let’s stop harping on about the two-state solution; let’s stop ignoring a simple reality: Israel is finally going to occupy all the land of Palestine, getting rid of as many natives as possible. Only in this context can we understand the genocide in Gaza.
